Smoking and the Effects on Teen Health
Teen Health > Smoking and the Effects on Teen Health
Children are starting to smoke at a very young age. Where and how they get the cigarettes is still under question as it is illegal to sell cigarettes to a minor. Every year another teen develops an illness related to smoking. When will the law be passed that bans smoking to all ages? Where are the parents, has our government in their attempts to protect the children of today, put the smoking gun right in their young hands?
Smoking kills thousands of Canadians each year. The increase of child smokers has near doubled in recent years. It's very addictive and many people who start smoking regularly, carry on until the day they die, even though they have tried to stop many times. Most smokers take up smoking in their school years. Although the risks are serious many people are still smoking. The trouble is that the younger you are when you start, the worse the effects on your health. Schools
can show the teens a video tape of what their lungs will look like
after smoking a pack of cigarettes every day for one year. The lungs
are black and filled with tar. It can rob them of the ability to enjoy
an active life. Worst case is that it can cause lung cancer robbing
them of life.
Parents have for generation forbid their children to smoke. However
teenagers still do. The government tell parents that they can “not
control, or discipline their children with force” Yet it is our
government that forces parents to watch are their children smoke, and
cause irreversible damage to their young lives. Parents have to bring their teens to teen drug rehab centers once they get confirmation that they are into drugs. Teen Health > Smoking and the Effects on Teen Health
