There are many theories about the low carb lifestyle. If you eat a high fat, low carb diet, you are missing out on the calorie intake that is important both to weight gain as well as weight loss. Studies show that most overweight people don’t over eat, they are just hungry because of the high fat intake and the low carbs. They tend to eat more because they’re bodies are craving carbohydrates and they end up eating more of the high fat foods, avoiding what they’re body is actually craving.

Carbohydrates can be addictive an those who are addicts will continue to eat them, all the time producing more and more insulin, which in turn inhibits brain serotonin release. This makes the person feel a decreased sense of satisfaction. The Atkins diet claims that by going on a low carb diet, this will allow the dieter to eat as many or even possibly more calories than they were eating in the first place and they will still lose inches and some pounds.

An over intake of carbohydrates makes your body over produce insulin, which is the main cause of the metabolic imbalance that underlies obesity in many people today. Too many carbohydrates causes an increase in blood glucose, increased blood insulin, and increased TGs. A person that is already overweight and continues to eat too many carbohydrates will soon suffer from hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance and making the carbs that were taken in to be stored as fat instead of being converted into energy.

When on a low carb diet, you should still exercise regularly. Just because you no longer enjoy carbohydrates during your daily life, it doesn’t mean that you can just rely on your low carb diet to lose all of the weight for you. Daily exercise will help to increase your metabolism and help to burn fat and give you more energy. Exercising is a major key in any weight loss diet.
