Carrier Oils

Blending Ratio:
5-18 drops of pure essential oil
1 oz carrier oil

The carrier oil chosen should be cold pressed. Oils produced by the process of 'hot extraction', although much cheaper, are unsuitable for use in aromatherapy as they are of an inferior quality. The base oil should be unrefined and untreated by chemicals. Vegetable oils have therapeutic properties in their own right and contain many vitamins and minerals, but the more highly processed the vegetable oils are, the less vitamin content will be retained. Color and other additives may also be added at the oil pressing factories, which is also undesirable. For the purpose of aromatherapy always use cold pressed, unrefined, additive-free carrier oils. It is highly unlikely that you will find these oils on the shelves of your supermarket! Since the carrier oil is by far the largest part of any massage blend, you should always choose it carefully.

I personally recommend Sweet Almond Oil for massage oil blends as it applies silky smooth and doesn't leave your skin feeling sticky or greasy. For more information about carrier oils please see our individual item descriptions.
